Born in Heidelberg, Germany, he has significantly impacted advancement and sales, with Santa Barbara, California, now his home. Known for his perseverance and professionalism, he has left an indelible mark on each institution he has served.

     

    He began his career journey with a solid academic background, earning a B.A. in Marketing from Loyola University, Maryland. His academic pursuits almost included an MBA in Finance from the same institution, but he made a significant personal decision to pause his studies to care for his second child. This choice, made while balancing a daily commute from Baltimore to Washington, DC, underscores his resilience and dedication, which are central to his career.

     

    In his professional endeavors, he has distinguished himself through his leadership in major fundraising campaigns, marked by his unwavering commitment to integrity. At American University, he was pivotal in a $200M fundraising effort, successfully raising an initial $120M. His strategic insight was further demonstrated at Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he was instrumental in a $2.4 billion fundraising campaign, contributing significantly to Johns Hopkins University's $4.5 billion effort. His expertise was further recognized at the University of Southern California, where he orchestrated a $2 billion campaign for USC Keck Medicine, a part of USC's overarching $6 billion fundraising initiative. David Carrera California has consistently demonstrated impeccable standards and integrity throughout his career, managing complex responsibilities with noteworthy competence.

     

    The family has always been at the core of his life. Married to Jacqueline Carrera for 35 years, they have raised three children, fostering strong family bonds. Their family life is filled with shared activities, including annual vacations, holiday gatherings, and attending sporting and music events. He maintains a close relationship with his children and eagerly anticipates his first grandchild's arrival in March 2024.

     

    Despite his professional commitments, he harbors a deep love for the outdoors. His hobbies range from fly fishing, camping, and hiking to cycling, mountain biking, and motorcycle riding. His active lifestyle includes skiing, his passion for experiencing live music, sporting events, including the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and multiple events at USC. One passion near his heart is his love and intimate knowledge of the iconic band, The Grateful Dead. This collage of interests is born from his fundamental belief in enjoying all of life's pleasures, a testament to his perseverance that assures a balanced life.

     

    A fervent believer in giving back, he has always been invested in charitable activities. He and his family have supported numerous causes throughout the years, reflected in their contributions to private school education, higher education, social justice, environmental, and humanitarian causes. His philanthropic commitments include serving as part of USC Good Neighbors, a member of the Board of Directors of the South Baltimore Homeless Shelter, the Fuel Fund of Maryland, Inc., and the Trout Unlimited MD Chapter. He has also been the head coach for several local Maryland soccer clubs and at the School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. His deep-rooted commitment to teaching is a clear testament to his strong sense of dedication and perseverance beyond his professional endeavors.
